We have been very fortunate over the years to own, breed and show some outstanding National winning stallions.  In the seventies, Cathy and her brother Don Jr. found for their parents, a stunning yearling black/bay colt with four white socks named Yahya Matuk. He was sired by the US and Canadian Top Ten Stallion Heritage Elegant (Fadi x Doraza) and out of a daughter of eight time National winning stallion El Raffon (Raffon x El Louisa).  Matuk was named Canadian Top Ten stallion as a four year old with Cathy showing.  Matuk is the maternal grandsire of Da Vinci FM.  In the eighties, Cathy purchased Matuk’s sire Heritage Elegant and stood a very successful sire and son team at Cathy’s parents, Don and Barb Murphy’s, Shadowood Farm in Whitmore Lake, Michigan.  In the nineties Tom and Cathy purchased Amurath Silverwing from Paul and Mary Loeber of Plum Grove farm.  Silverwing was sired by the *GG Samir son, Rohara Samurai and out of the legendary Amurath Bandiera.  Silverwing earned three Top Ten stallion titles and became a sire of a number of notable national winners.  Just before Silverwing was purchased from the Loeber’s, Cathy also acquired another foal by Rohara Samurai, an exotic filly named Amurath Astoria.  This young mare was out of Amurath Astar, an ultra typy snow-white daughter of the leading producing Nazeer son * Ramses Fayek. Astoria became a many time champion and regional winner in halter as well as a western champion. More important she was bred to the families Canadian Top Ten Stallion Yahya Matuk and produced Full Moon Astar, the dam of Da Vinci FM.

Da Vinci FM is a foal resulting from many generations of National winning parents. Combining the strength, athletic ability and stunning beauty of El Raffon, *Ramses Fayek, *GG Samir and *Aramus on the dams side and crossing them with the legendary beauty of Versace proved to be an unstoppable home run.  Da Vinci acquired the size of Fame VF, the balance, shoulder and hip of *Ramses Fayek, the sweetness and stunning beauty of *GG Samir topped off with the finishing stamp of the great Versace.  Da Vinci’s amazing ability to consistently reproduce his own legendary  beauty is really no surprise when you consider all of the great producers of type and quality in his background.  The legendary Jimmy Dean once told Cathy that to produce a successful breeding stallion you had to “breed apples to apples”. This helps to insure the solid genetic pool that would consistently reproduce the traits that you were seeking.  Looking at Da Vinci’s ancestors on both sides of his pedigree, you will consistently see the short faces, wide eyes, sharp ears, well set beautifully shaped neck, great shoulder, short back, huge hip and natural Arabian carriage that he himself has and produces with such regularity. His ability to reproduce himself  has been evident from his first year at stud when as a two year old he sired the stunning National Champion Futurity stallion MPA Giovanni.

From the moment of Da Vinci’s birth Tom and Cathy have been very aware of the blessing and the responsibility of owning a horse such as Da Vinci. Planning, breeding, raising and showing this great horse through his second Reserve National Championship has been one of the great honors and thrill of their lives. Shortly after his Senior Stallion title the very hard decision was made to sell Da Vinci. Many offers were fielded and finally the decision was made to turn the management and care of Da Vinci  into the very capable hands of Jim and Sally Bedeker  under the guidance of Midwest Training Center.  With this next chapter in Da Vinci’s career he has access to many of the greatest mares in the Arabian industry worldwide. We are greatful for the superb management and breeding opportunities that the Bedeker’s are offering Da Vinci. Lifetime breeding rights continue to offer us the opportunity to be part of Da Vinci’s future as well as his past. We are now breeding mares of our own that we know are excellent crosses as well as utilizing the embryos of some amazing national champions and national champion producers.  We are more excited than ever to see the foals this spring. We have seen the foals Da Vinci has sired from his first foal crop.  He is amazing in his ability to reproduce his type, size and quality. With the great group of mares that Da Vinci is breeding now, the future is VERY BRIGHT!
